HISTORY:
The learners from our school are enjoying to learn about the past; from the first inhabitants to homo sapiens as they live today. The Grade 5 group especially enjoy learning and discovering, through evidence, how people from the early days used to live.
Our Grade 6 group receive great insight discussing the First Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They appreciate the Declaration of Children’s Rights and participate in set assignments with great enthusiasm.
The group discussions are approached in a mature, yet open way. They now read rights with understanding and know how to participate in a democratic vote. It is a sure fact that our School will produce some famous Historians for the future.
WHAT IS HSS?
IS IT A MAP? NOT EXACTLY THAT
IS IT A BOOK? WELL LET’S TAKE A LOOK.
IT’S A LEARNING AREA CALLED HSS
LET’S FIND OUT WHAT IT IS WITH AN INTELLIGENT GUESS.
‘H’ IS FOR HUMAN: ‘S’ IS FOR SOCIAL,
AS WELL AS FOR SCIENCES
QUITE CLEARLY THESE THREE THINGS HAVE LOTS OF ALLIANCES
PEOPLE ARE CENTRAL TO HSS:
WHERE THEY WORK AND WHERE THEY LIVE;
WHETHER THEY TAKE OR WHETHER THEY GIVE,
WHAT THEY DO AND WHAT THEY HAVE,
IF THEY’RE HAPPY OR IF THEY ARE SAD.
EXAMINING SOCIETIES IN THE PRESENT AND IN THE PAST
MAY HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHY SOME THINGS DON’T LAST.
YOU’LL LEARN HOW TO VOTE FOR GOVERNMENT OR FRIEND
AND MAKE IMPORTANT DECISIONS LIKE HOW MUCH TO SPEND.
ASKING QUESTIONS IS WHAT YOU DO
FINDING SOLUTIONS HAPPENS TOO.
YOU LOOK AT SOURCES OLD AND NEW
YOU’RE ALSO ALLOWED TO GIVE YOUR OWN POINT OF VIEW.
HSS INCLUDES PEOPLE AND PLACES.
YOU ALSO GET TO LOOK AT LOTS OF DIFFERENT FACES.
IN WARTIME, PEACETIME AND TIMES OF DISTRESS
THERE’S A WHOLE WORLD PACKED INTO HSS!
People often ask what HSS is; after reading this fun poem, I’m sure that people will have a better understanding of human and social sciences.
It is a very exciting and enjoyable learning area for both teachers and learners. Learners have the chance to combine many different aspects of life together in order to grow into well adapted social individuals.
Geography:
Our aim: Developing learners’ knowledge and their understanding.
In Geography, we explore our fascinating world –
- How we fit into our neighbourhood and how the neighbourhood itself fits into the region, country and continent.
- Together, using features, facts and figures, each learner builds a unique picture of the countries of the world.
